국립익산박물관은 익산 문화지구와 미륵사지 옛터를 잇는 역사의 축 위에 위치하며 과거, 현재, 미래를 잇는 공간의 의미를 가진다. 대지 지형에 순응하는 배치는 보이지 않는 박물관을 형성하면서, 미륵사지 터의 얼굴인 미륵사지 석탑이 주인공이 되고 주변은 신비로움을 간직한 배경이 되게 한다. 박물관은 미륵사지석탑 기단부의 중앙 심주석과 이를 둘러싼 화랑올 모티브로 공간올 형성하였다. 모든 전시 공간은 내외부가 하나로 연결되어 있으며, 전시 동선올 통해 기념비적 공간인 광장을 시작으로 미륵사지 석탑에 이르는 여정을 경험할 수 있다.

Iksan Museum represents a space that connects the past, present, and future, standing on a line linking the Iksan cultural district and Mireuksa Temple Site. The layout, which complies with the land*s geographical features, not only forms the image of an ttinvisible museumw but also makes the Stone Pagoda at Mireuksa Temple Site stand out against its mystical surroundings. The museum forms a space with an image of the center stone of the Stone Pagoda’s base and a gallery surrounding that center stone. As every exhibition space is connected inside and outside, any exhibition route is able to offer visitors a journey from the monumental square to the Stone Pagoda.
