포항 포은중앙도서관은 시청 이전으로 침체된 지역의 활성화를 위해 단순한 도서관 기능에서 벗어나 포항의 시민, 문화 그리고 도시를 품어내는 둥지 역할의 복합문화센터로 계획되었다. 도서관뿐만 아니라 쇼핑, 휴식, 문화생활 등의 복합적인 프로그램을 아우를 수 있는 아케이드와 아트리움을 통해 도시적 스케일의 공간을 구성하였다. 더하여 열린 공간을 통해 이용자들 간의 소통올 유도하여 커뮤니티 활성화를 도모한다.
Pohang City Poeun Central Library is designed as a cultural center that goes beyond a simple library and embraces Pohang’s citizens, culture, and the city to revitalize the area, which has become inactive since the relocation of the city hall. A plan is a large-scale space with an atrium and arcade that can hold a library and other multiple programs such as shopping, relaxation, and cultural life. The central library also seeks to invigorate the community by inducing visitors to communicate with each other through its open spaces.
